What do these preparation choices mean?

Rough sawn keeps the mill-sawn surface. Planed to thickness makes thickness more consistent where material fits our planer. Jointed + planed adds a flattened reference face/edge where the piece fits our jointer. If you only know the finished size you need, choose “I'm not sure” and describe the project.

What does 8/4 mean?

Rough lumber thickness is often described in quarters of an inch. 4/4 is about 1 inch rough; 6/4 about 1½ inches; 8/4 about 2 inches. You do not need to know this terminology to submit a request.

What's a live edge?

The natural outer edge of the tree remains on one or both sides instead of being cut straight.

What does air dried mean?

Lumber is dried gradually with airflow rather than used fresh from the mill. Final suitability depends on moisture and intended use.
